What strikes me about the Emperor today is how grounded this guy is. My current favourite deck, The Mystic Dreamer pictures a very handsome guy, cool long hair and shmancy clothes, a little like a character from Game of Thrones, or Vikings. That’s enough of a draw for me. He looks pretty relaxed and comfortable in himself, in the midst of a lot going on around him. Yet he remains steady. Not starchy or rigid, but calm and in control, steady and secure. This guy is playing the long game.

Notice the number four, which is about something solid… four walls to a house, or four legs to a chair. He is the opposite of chaos. Go to a moment in your life that created a strong reaction towards someone or something. Feel that moment when you were tempted to react impulsively to shut those feelings down.

Make An Ally Of the Emperor

Now pick up this card as your ally. Ask yourself… What feelings just blew up in me? Why are they so frightening? What impulse showed up to shut those feelings down? What other chaos will that bring my way? Is that a skilful response? Why am I needing to control this moment so strongly? What is within my control? What is not? How has my life prepared me for this moment? What will the cost be for me to strike out impulsively right now to quiet the storm? What are ways storms have hurt me in the past?

Look at this card and see yourself on the fancy chair with awesome hair and shmancy clothes. What parts of you have Emperor attributes? How can that version of yourself show up for you right now? Where is your inner power? What are your superpowers? What are your four walls/chair legs? Where did you build them, and what did you build them on? How can you access them right now?

Know this. You will be okay. Thus far, you have a 100 percent success rate of figuring stuff out. You don’t have to let that person or that situation be in control of your feelings and reactions, you can go on being solid and steady. Whatever happened with that person and that situation, you are in charge of you. When you can spend five more minutes in the place of strength, not reacting, that’s when you are sitting in your power.
